Lee Sedol (9p) has taken the 3rd BC Card Cup World Baduk Championship for a second year in a row, defeating Gu Li (9p) with three wins to two. When compared to game four, game five was relatively peaceful. Lee Sedol in particular demonstrated a very flexible style in this game and it seemed like Gu couldn’t land a punch at times.

Gu Li (9p) has evened the score at 2-2, against Lee Sedol (9p) in the finals of the 3rd BC Card Cup. For anyone who thought game three was violent, this one was off the scale. The fighting started early and continued throughout the game. With Gu equaling the series the head to head record between these two is even again at 12-12. The final match will be critical!

Game three of the 3rd BC Card Cup final has ended, with Lee Sedol (9p) winning by half a point after a difficult game. With this win, Lee takes a 2-1 lead over his opponent, Gu Li (9p), and an obvious advantage going into what could be the final game tomorrow.

All eyes are on Seoul as Lee Sedol (9p) takes on Gu Li (9p) in the final of the 3rd BC Card Cup. After two matches the score is tied at one all and the head to head record between Lee and Gu is 12 all. Gu won the first match, playing white, but Lee came back in the second match to even the score in an exciting game.

On 19 April 2011, defending champion, Lee Sedol (9p) of Korea advanced to the final of the 3rd BC Card Cup by defeating fellow countryman Park Junghwan (9p). A day later, Gu Li (9p) of China won his semi final against Heo Youngho (8p) of Korea to join Lee.

This game is the second and last game of 12th Maxim Cup final, between Park Younghun and Lee Changho. It was a relatively peaceful game, and there weren’t any big fights, but if you look deeper, it’s a really interesting and fun game, as it was close throughout. The 25th Tianyuan Tournament has ended with Chen Yaoye (9p) successfully defending his title against up and coming Chinese player, Zhou Hexi (4p). Zhou was tipped by punters to have a good chance against Chen in this challenge. He was one of three ‘tiger cubs’ who made it to the semi final and he won the right to challenge Chen by defeating stalwart and Chinese head coach, Yu Bin (9p).

Park Younghun wins 12th Maxim Cup

On April 7 2011, Park Younghun (9p) won the 12th Maxim Cup, beating Lee Changho (9p) by half a point in the second match. Park won the first match several weeks ago (March 21), and with two wins he took the best of three title. The Maxim Cup is a rapid Korean domestic tournament for 9 dan players only. This year, the tournament was held on the beautiful Jeju Island.

Top 20 Go Players: Kim Jiseok and Wang Xi

Kim Jiseok was born in 1989, and is considered one of rising stars in Korea. He has been known as a Baduk genius since he was very young and he became a pro at the age of fourteen. Wang Xi was in his prime between 2004-2007. During that time it seemed he was stronger than anybody else and it looked as if he didn’t even need to fight to win.

This was one of the most exciting and complicated games so far in the 3rd BC Card Cup. The game was played between Kim Jiseok (7p) of Korea and Gu Li (9p) of China. Both players are well known as infighters, and it shows in this game. Gu Li’s career so far is far better than Kim Jiseok’s, but Kim is far younger and is a rising star in Korea. Enjoy the game!
