The 2nd Bingsheng Cup final was played on October 13, 2011 in Suzhou, China.
The reigning champion, Park Jieun 9p of Korea, took on Tang Yi 2p of China for the title.
The 2nd Bingsheng Cup
History repeats?
Interestingly, this was a replay of one of last year’s semi final matches, where Park prevailed.
En route to the final, Tang defeated the likes of Xie Yimin 5p of Japan, while Park faced an all too familiar rival in Rui Naiwei 9p.
Happily for Park, but sadly for Tang, the result from last year’s semi final was repeated this year, and Park won the Bingsheng Cup for a second year.
This is Park’s fourth international title and yet another trophy to add to her impressive collection.
About the Bingsheng Cup
The Bingsheng Cup was first played last year in Qionglong Mountain, Suzhou, China. It’s sometimes also referred to as the Qionglong Cup for this reason.
It’s an all female knockout tournament between 16 players: 5 from China, 4 from Korea, 3 from Japan and 1 each from Taiwan, Europe, North America and Oceania.
Western representatives
Amateurs are allowed to take part if they win the right to represent their region.
Natalia Kovaleva represented Europe, while Feng Yun 9p played for North America and Joanne Missingham 5p represented Oceania.
At last year’s inaugural tournament, Joanne Missingham (also known as Hei Jiajia) caused quite a stir when she stormed into the final to face Park as a mere 1p.
This year Joanne lost by 2.5 points, against Chen Yiming 1p, in the first round. Feng Yun and Natalia were also eliminated in round 1, as was Taiwan’s Zhang Zhengping 2p.
This left the big three, China, Japan and Korea, to contest the finals.
