Recently Dr Bai Taeil announced an updated World Go Ranking for the top 30 Go players in the world. As you’ll see, Chinese players have improved their standing relative to the 2010 World Go Ranking. As a result, even though numbers 1 and 2 are Lee Sedol and Park Junghwan, numbers 3 to 10 are all Chinese players.

Today I’d like to introduce the only two players in the top 20 whom An Younggil (8p), who has been covering this series, hasn’t met or played personally. At number 11, we have China’s Zhou Ruiyang (5p) and at number 12, we have Zhou’s fellow countryman, Tuo Jiaxi (3p). Zhou and Tuo are both young promising players, rapidly climbing the ranks and carving out a name for themselves on the world stage.
The quarter finals of the 3rd BC Card Cup concluded today with Gu Li (9p) defeating Kim Jiseok (7p). In the other quarter finals, Park Junghwan (9p) defeated Zhou Ruiyang (5p), Lee Sedol (9p) defeated Chen Yaoye (9p) and Heo Youngho (8p) defeated Zhong Wenjing (5p). This leaves Gu as the only Chinese player in the semi finals, facing off against three Korean players.
The round of 16 has concluded in the 3rd BC Card Cup with Gu Li (9p) beating Cho Hanseung (9p) to claim the final spot in the quarter finals. The other quarter finalists are Lee Sedol (9p), Park Junghwan (9p), Heo Youngho (8p) and Kim Jiseok (7p) of Korea and Chen Yaoye (9p), Zhou Ruiyang (5p) and Zhong Wenjing (5p) of China. The quarter finals will begin on 31 March 2011.
Have you ever wondered how top professional Go players compare? Here Dr Bai Taeil, who created the Korean ranking system, made an announcement of the World Go Ranking for the end of 2010. Calculating a world ranking is very difficult because of the differences between the systems in Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan.
The news conference of the final stage competition of the 12th Nongshim Cup was held in the Korean culture Court in Shanghai on January 18th 2011. The major players of the three delegations: Kong Jie (9 dan), Lee Changho(9 dan) and Satoshi Yuki (9 dan) attended the conference. The Nongshim cup is a three-country event. The tournament started in 1999 with five representatives from each of the participating countries China, Korea and Japan.
