An Younggil’s Pro Go Videos: Rules Rule – Chen Yaoye vs Iyama Yuta

Can the outcome of a game depend on whether area scoring rule or territory scoring rule was used?

Younggil is going to show you a game played between Chen Yaoye 9p and Iyama Yuta 9p, from the 4th China, Japan and Korea Meijin Challenge final.

The game was interesting with a large moyo from the opening for both sides.

The balance demonstrated by both players was wonderful, and the game became very close after the middle game fighting.

You can see a marvelous ko fight at the end, and the trade was very subtle and sophisticated under the time pressure.

  1. Hello there,

Please, do continue making those videos! These are extremely useful and I’m sure they’ll get more and more popular.
The way you interact with the room shows every watcher how any situation ends up, whereas classical commented game (non-video ones) just show a few possibilities sometimes. I’m 10k and I feel like I’d never think about most of the pro moves, but thankfully in your videos most moves I was planning are showed and explained.
Besides, it way more relax to just click play and watch the magic.

Thank you so much for your efforts.

    Cheers from France

    • Glad you liked it Nicolas!

These lectures have been going on for a while but I have only started to help film them recently. Wish I had started earlier then we would have a much bigger library of videos to share with the Go community world-wide.

Rest assured I will continue to help make them but maybe the pace will slow down a bit going forward. Potential there will only be 2-3 Younggil’s videos per month released in the future. But David will make more videos too, so hopefully there will be videos that Go fans can look forward to on a regular basis from GGG.

  2. To give a different opinion. I do like the videos, I think they are very good (thank you a lot!), but if possible at all I would prefer SGFs with commentary instead (or in addition). I can study those better by myself, and I can do it at any time and place, not just when I got headphones and a quiet environment, which is rather rare for me :/

      Thanks maf for your feedback.

Yes, I agree with you. SGF commentary has some advantages, and I’ll keep making SGF commentaries as well.

However, the games won’t be overlapped, because I can show you more games with this way.

By the way, I appreciate your opinion with feedback.

I think that alternating between SGF files and videos is a great idea. Thank you for your time and effort to bring this to the Go community.

For people who want access to more videos I recommend a membership to Baduk TV English. I got it a few months ago and I think is the best thing I have ever done regarding my Go studies. I have become so much stronger just by watching and studying the lessons. There are also hundreds of commented pro games.

Yes, I also watch some interesting games on Baduk TV English.

You’ll understand the games more and you’ll enjoy watching them for sure. You can also learn useful skills and strategies by watching the lessons. 🙂
