Relentless: Lee Sedol vs Gu Li by Go Game Guru, foreword by Lee Changho 9 dan.

This is the culmination of over two years of work (and dare I say, even obsession) by Younggil and David.

We are thrilled and humbled thatΒ Lee Changho 9 dan agreed to write the foreword.

Relentless Lee Sedol vs Gu Li (back) by Go Game Guru, foreword by Lee Changho 9 dan

Relentless: Lee Sedol vs Gu Li, back cover and blurb.

Relentless contains analysis of 48 games between two of the top Go players of the early 21st century, but it is not just another book of game commentaries.

It is the story of the rivalry and friendship between Lee Sedol and Gu Li, their relentless struggle to become the best, and an explication of the secrets of Go hidden within their games.

There are two parts to Relentless. Part One is the core of the book and examines, in unprecedented detail, the 10 game match (jubango) played by Lee Sedol and Gu Li throughout 2014.

Part Two reviews every other official game between the two masters (up until the end of 2015), providing the reader with ample material to review and enjoy, while reflecting on what they learned in Part One.

Advanced orders start this Friday

The book is being printed as we speak and pre-orders will start this Friday, with free shipping for early customers.

We will also make one chapter available as a free sample.

Update: You can order Relentless and download the free sample here.

I’m glad this book is finally here. I’ll be preordering it. I wasn’t expecting it to be two books though, but it sure is a nice suprise.

    • David Ormerod says:

Thanks Jorik! It’s two parts in one book. We decided against multiple volumes and put everything into one brick of a book πŸ™‚

      • Anonymous says:

Ah I misunderstood that. Still I’m happy that more games than just the jubango are included.

  3. Are you planning to sell PDF version as well?

    • David Ormerod says:

Yes, we will make a PDF version available and are working on other e-book formats too.

  4. I’ll buy the book! Hopefuly there are other options than paypal.

    • David Ormerod says:

I think you’ll like it Dieter. At least, I hope so πŸ™‚

Yes, there are plenty of options other than Paypal.

  5. So keen to read this – are there any plans to put it on

    • David Ormerod says:

Yes, but our focus has been on getting the book finished and out the door first, and then we’ll start work on SmartGo Books.

  6. Pierre Boulestreau says:

Very exciting ! How can we order it ?

    • David Ormerod says:

We’ll post more news about that later in the week. Everything is really busy right now with the book finally being finished and the Lee Sedol — AlphaGo match at the same time πŸ™‚

  7. Viktor Kurta says:

    Na vΓ©gre!

  8. Anonymous says:

Wow, really nice, I think IΒ΄m going to buy it.
    What will the price be?

    • David Ormerod says:

      e-book: $9.99
paperback: $49.99 (it’s a huge book, costs a lot to print)
      hardcover: $79.99

Our plan is to bundle the e-book version (eventually in several formats) with orders of printed copies at no extra cost. I’m just working out the technical details of how we’ll do that now.

      • Anonymous says:

The price is absolutely okay for such a big book! πŸ™‚
I will buy it because I like the way Younggil reviews professional games and explains their moves really much. I think his commentaries are the best I ever read.
Really looking forward to the book, recently IΒ΄m working through many of the Gam commentaries he made here on gogamguru. I hope the book will be as good πŸ˜‰

      • Anonymous says:

Also it would be really cool to get the ebook for free when buying the print-version. Hope youΒ΄ll find out how to do that πŸ™‚

  9. Kindle?

  10. Michael Brownell says:

    Looks fantastic!

  11. Very excited to see this! Congrats to Younggil and David for the culmination of such hardwork. I’m definitely going to pick up a copy for myself. Go book #298 here I come!

    • David Ormerod says:

Thanks Wasuji. We’ll have to compare Go book collections some time. Mine is ridiculous too…

  12. Uberdude says:

625 pages?! Wow! Looks like this might replace Invincible as the modern Go player’s bible. Greatly looking forward to it.

    • David Ormerod says:

Haha, it’s kind of you to say so Uberdude, but I think you’d better read it first πŸ˜‰

  13. Anonymous says:

I will buy the ebook for sure.

  14. Paul Heeney says:

Are the game commentaries aimed at a level that a DDK might appreciate?

    • David Ormerod says:

When we were writing it we mainly imagined a single digit kyu to strong dan audience.

I think the best thing would be for you to have a look at the sample pages which are available here now: and see how much you get out of it.

You probably won’t stay a double digit kyu player though, especially if you enjoy reading Go books πŸ™‚

  20. Though they didn’t update this post, the book is already available in the shop

  21. Josh Hoak says:

  22. The book says: “you can download all the game records at:
